Featured Projects

Below are just a few projects that I have been involved with or wanted to highlight because of their unique contribution to the city of Philadelphia. This is the kind of innovative community and grassroots work that deserves full support from city officials. Because of my experience working so closely with these groups, I would give support to these campaigns and the myriad of other community-based efforts to correct the politics of fear in this city.

Great Expectations: Citizens' Voices on Philadelphia's Future

Chris Satullo, the editor of the Inquirer’s editorial page, announced a project that might help transform politics in this city: Great Expectations: Citizen Voices on Philadelphia’s Future. It is a project of citizen input that has the potential to radically improve politics in the city.

Neighborhood Defense

 NeighborhoodDefense.org is a network of civic associations, community groups, community development corporations and individuals dedicated to preserving and strengthening the role of citizens and neighborhoods in decisions about land use and planning in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Transit Campaign

Public transportation is critical to our regional economy.  That's why Marc Stier is a leader of the Philadelphia Transit Campaign, a broad state-wide coalition of labor leaders, community groups, and business groups to help get more funding for SEPTA.

Casino-Free Philadelphia

Nobody asked Philadelphians if they wanted casinos in their neighborhoods. Casino-Free Philadelphia has been fighting to give residents and small businesses a voice. They include members from across the city who are fighting for neighborhoods due to the undemocratic process by which casinos and the negative impacts of slots parlors on a city, including traffic and crime.

Philadelphia Campaign for Housing Justice

In a city where over one fourth of the population lives below the poverty line, access to affordable housing is a major issue for thousands of its citizens.  The Philadelphia Campaign for Housing Justice is fighting for an innovative policy, known as inclusionary housing, to get additional affordable housing built.
