Neighborhood Networks Endorses
Democratic Candidate for City Council At Large
Marc Stier!!

Philadelphia, PA;          Neighborhood Networks first political endorsement went to Marc Stier, Democrat running for City Council At Large. On Monday, February 25, 2007, the Steering Committee unanimously endorsed Marc, their first At Large endorsement this political season.

Gloria M. Gilman, Esq., the Chair of the large, multi- community organization, spoke for its members; “We need his voice and leadership in Council in order to push for progressive change in Philadelphia.” She went on to explain that, “Marc is universally regarded as a progressive dynamo who will raise the issues important to neighborhood residents by creative problem solving.”

Marc was one of the founders of Neighborhood Networks and has been one of its leaders since its founding conference in June 2005. “No progressive issue campaign starts today without someone calling us. We have also developed important ties to labor and are consulted by members of City Council and the General Assembly,” said Stier. He added that “Perhaps our greatest achievement, however, is that we have remained democratic with a small ‘d’. We have polled our members before taking most actions and/or our decisions have been shaped by neighborhood/ward leaders who are elected by and responsible to their local membership,” said Stier.

Stier lead the Neighborhood Networks field campaigns for the Ethics Reform Home Rule Charter Amendment in May 2006 and for and the Charter Amendment creating an Independent Ethics Board in November 2006. He also led Neighborhood Networks involvement in the Coalition to Raise the Minimum Wage and the Pennsylvania Campaign for Housing Justice and other issue campaigns.

Marc left the Executive Committee of Neighborhood Networks when he began his campaign for City Council At Large but remains a member of the Steering Committee.

Neighborhood Networks has also endorsed Damon K. Roberts for City Council in the second district. It will probably be making additional endorsements in both at-large and district races.
